AU Successfully Celebrated its Fiftyth Anniversary on October, 30 & 31,2004 Alemaya University is located about 510 Km from Addis Ababa in the Eastern Hararghe Zone at a distance of about 20 km and 40 km from the two nearby towns: Harar and Dire Dawa respectively. The University overlooks the beautiful lake Alemaya from which it derives its renowned name. Currently, the University is running 30 programs at PhD, MSc, BSc and Diploma levels. In a short time, the University has established an internationally recognized Indeed, a total of 567 students have graduated with Masters Degrees in various fields of agriculture upto 2004. In addition to the M.Sc program, the Alemaya University has launched Ph.D. programs in various fields of agriculture since 2002. Summer and Distance Education Programs are implemented with the aim of upgrading the educational standard of teachers of primary and secondary schools of the country.
